From the 17-story Beau Ciel highrise on the downtown Sarasota bayfront to the en Provence condominium on the Longboat Key beachfront to the 700-acre Founders Club golf community in Sarasota, U.S. Assets Group has gained a reputation for building high-calibre communities that elevate standards in the marketplace.
Since it was established by Tom Brown in 1993, U.S. Assets Group's legacy of exceeding customer demand has placed it among the area's most successful developers. Under the U.S. Assets Group umbrella is its single-family home construction affiliate, Heritage Builders. This company is currently building stylish and well-appointed homes at attainable prices at the Grand Oaks community in Venice, Florida.
The family business behind these endeavors, not surprisingly, resonates with the same integrity and commitment that is evident in its developments. Father and son Tom and Steve Brown bring more than 50 years of experience in community development, home construction and a creed of Quality, Integrity and Service to every project that bears the company’s name.
Founder Tom Brown has a wealth of knowledge that can only come from a lifelong experience in the business. He was one of the senior executives behind The Meadows, the successful Sarasota golf community by noted developer Taylor Woodrow, and President of Markborough Florida, which developed large, master-planned communities across the state of Florida. An Oklahoma native and graduate of the University of Denver, Tom moved to Florida in the 1970s and soon made Sarasota his new home. Tom splits time between Sarasota and Montana, along with his wife, Barbara.
Steve Brown handles the daily operation of the business, including construction management, sales and marketing and community planning. Raised in Sarasota, Steve went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Economics from at the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. After a career as a litigation consultant for large insurance corporations, he brought his management expertise to U.S. Assets Group in 2003. Steve lives in Sarasota with his wife, Bonnie, and two young daughters, Lilly and Annabelle.
Steve's brother-in-law, Sarasota native Ed Wilson, serves as the Director of Construction. The building industry is all he has ever known, working with his father, a local remodeler, since he could hold a hammer. Now a licensed Florida General Constructor, Ed has an extensive background in high-end custom home construction, including eight years with a high-end custom builder. He oversees construction activities, including permitting, purchasing, budgeting and daily management of the hand-selected group of subcontractors and tradesmen. Having always worked with family, he says he feels fortunate to do what he loves with the people who are close to him. He lives in Sarasota with his wife, Alia, who is a third grade teacher in the Sarasota County school system, and their two young sons, Philip and William.
Patrick McManus, Superintendent, has a background in all facets of construction and landscaping in the Northeast and Florida. He provides onsite construction supervision, including scheduling, inspections and quality control, and is the face-to-face liaison with homeowners. He lives in Sarasota with his wife, Dawn, and three sons, Patrick, Jace and Braden.
Members of the U.S. Assets Group and Heritage Builders team pride themselves on conducting business in a manner that benefits all partners and clients in the development and home building process, achieving success through honesty, good character and reliability, all qualities upheld by the Brown family. It was with this in mind that Tom and Steve selected the name Heritage Builders, reflecting the firm’s adherence to strong family values.
